A 6-page PDF, and every page does a job:
- Pattern details — materials, yardage per piece, finished measurements, difficulty and time.
- The coaster pattern — symbol key, abbreviation key, 6 written rounds, and a full colour-coded stitch chart.
- The stem pattern — the two-strand construction explained, 16 rounds, its own stitch chart, and the joining maths written out.
- Assembly — how the eight coasters lock into the stem frame.
- Photo tutorial — the stem parts labelled, a three-step photo sequence for slotting a coaster in, and close-ups of back loop, front loop and third loop.
- Direct support — a question about any round goes straight to us.

Skill level — and where it gets demanding
Skill level — and where it gets demanding
Intermediate. 3 out of 5. We'd rather say that here than have you find out on round nine.
You'll want to be comfortable with the magic circle, chain, single, double and treble crochet, slip stitch, back loop only, front loop only, decreases, working in a spiral, and stuffing. Every stitch used is listed and abbreviated inside the file. US crochet terms throughout.
The coasters are the straightforward half. The stem is the demanding one. It's worked with two strands at once, in a spiral that doesn't close, and it joins on a 24-to-12 ratio. It takes concentration, and it's the part people slow down on. Give it a quiet hour and keep the stitch chart open beside the written rounds.

Three ways to follow it
Three ways to follow it
The pattern is written three times over, and any one of them gets you there on its own:
- Written rounds. Line by line, round by round.
- Stitch charts. Colour-coded, one for the coaster and one for the stem. Not a supplement — a complete route through the pattern. If you read charts faster than prose, work from these and ignore the words.
- Photo tutorial. Labelled photographs for the assembly, including the loop close-ups.
And if a round still won't come out right, message us. Questions about this pattern are answered directly, usually within a working day.

Yarn, hook and finished size
Yarn, hook and finished size
- Yarn: any yarn, with a hook to match. The sample uses 2 mm macramé cotton cord — 85% cotton, 15% polyester, worsted / aran weight.
- Hook: 3.5 mm in the sample.
- Colours: two — one for the body, one for the stem.
- Also needed: scissors, tapestry needle, stuffing.
- Yarn per coaster: 17 g / 20 yds / 17 m.
- Yarn for the stem: about 37 g across both parts.
- Finished pumpkin: 18 cm / 7 in wide, 13 cm / 5.1 in tall.
- Single coaster: 12 cm / 4.75 in wide, 9 cm / 3.5 in tall.
- Time: 2 to 3 hours for the whole set.
Your yarn sets the scale. Heavier yarn and a bigger hook give you a bigger pumpkin — the pattern works either way.

Does it have to be orange?
Does it have to be orange?
No. The pattern needs two colours — one for the body, one for the stem — and nothing else about it is seasonal. Work it in red with a green stem and you have an apple. Same rounds, different object on the table.

What you end up with
Not a coaster set. An object that changes shape depending on whether anyone's drinking.

A centrepiece that never gets boxed up
Autumn decor comes out for eight weeks and then lives in a cupboard for ten months. This one sits on the table and has a job to do the rest of the year.

Eight coasters, not eight more things
When the mugs come out, it comes apart. When they're washed up, it goes back together. There is nothing to find a drawer for.

Something people ask about
A flat coaster gets no reaction. A pumpkin that comes apart in someone's hand gets one every time. It makes a gift that gets a question rather than a thank-you.

How hard is it, really?
Intermediate — 3 of 5. The coasters are straightforward. The stem takes concentration: two strands at once, in a spiral, joining 24 stitches to 12. Every stitch used is listed in the file.

What if the written rounds don't click?
Work from the stitch charts instead. They're colour-coded, one per piece, and they're a complete route through the pattern on their own — not a supplement to the text.

Do I need that exact cord?
No. Any yarn, with a hook to match. Your choice sets the finished size — heavier yarn gives you a bigger pumpkin.
